Ingredients:
1 lb ground chicken
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 onion, finely diced
1 bell pepper (any color), finely diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
1/2 cup tomato sauce
2 tablespoons ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon brown sugar (optional, for balance)
Salt and pepper to taste
4 hamburger buns, toasted
Optional toppings: sliced pickles, shredded lettuce, or a slice of cheese
Directions:
Sautรฉ the aromatics:
Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and bell pepper and sautรฉ for 3โ4 minutes until softened. Stir in the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds until fragrant.
Cook the chicken:
Add the ground chicken to the pan. Break it apart with a spatula and cook for about 5โ6 minutes, or until fully cooked and lightly browned.
Spice it up:
Stir in the Cajun seasoning, making sure it coats the chicken evenly. Let it cook for 1 minute to bring out the flavor of the spices.
Make it saucy:
Add the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and brown sugar (if using). Stir well and let the mixture simmer for 5โ7 minutes, until thick and saucy. Taste and adjust salt and pepper if needed.
Assemble the sandwiches:
Spoon the hot Cajun chicken mixture onto toasted buns. Top with your favorite extrasโlike crisp lettuce, pickles, or melty cheeseโfor extra texture and flavor.
Serve hot:
These sloppy joes are perfect with coleslaw, sweet potato fries, or a simple side salad.
