π Ingredients:
For the burgers:
-
1 lb ground beef (80/20 blend)
-
Salt and pepper
-
Garlic powder (optional)
-
4 slices cheddar cheese (or American for extra meltiness)
For the grilled cheese buns:
-
4 slices Texas toast or thick brioche bread
-
2 tbsp butter (softened)
-
Garlic powder + parsley (optional for garlic bread style)
-
Extra cheese for the “grilled cheese” part
π₯ How to Make It:
1. Form the smash patties:
Roll ground beef into loose 2 ozβ3 oz balls (youβll do a double patty per melt). Keep them chilled.
2. Make the grilled cheese buns:
-
Butter one side of each bread slice.
-
Optionally, sprinkle with garlic powder + parsley for flavor.
-
Toast the bread (buttered side down) on a griddle or pan until golden.
-
Add a slice of cheese between two toasted slices and grill until melted. This becomes your top and bottom “bun.”
3. Cook the smash patties:
-
Heat a flat griddle or skillet on high.
-
Place the beef balls on the hot surface and smash them down thin with a spatula.
-
Season with salt & pepper.
-
Cook 1β2 minutes per side until crispy and browned.
-
Add cheese on top and let it melt.
4. Assemble:
-
Take one grilled cheese, add two cheesy patties, stack it up.
-
Top with the second grilled cheese slice.
-
Give it a light press on the griddle to meld everything together.
π£ Optional Add-Ins:
-
Caramelized onions
-
Pickles
-
JalapeΓ±os
-
Chipotle mayo or burger sauce
