π Ingredients:
For the patty melt:
-
1 lb ground beef (80/20 for juicy patties)
-
Salt & pepper
-
1/2 tsp garlic powder (optional)
-
4 slices thick-cut bread (like sourdough, Texas toast, or rye)
-
1 tbsp butter (for toasting)
-
4 slices cheese (Swiss, provolone, or pepper jack works great)
-
Caramelized onions (optional but highly recommended)
For the creamy sauce:
-
1/4 cup mayonnaise
-
2 tbsp Dijon or spicy brown mustard
-
1 tbsp ketchup
-
1 tbsp finely chopped pickles or relish
-
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
-
1/4 tsp paprika or cayenne (optional for heat)
-
Pinch of black pepper
π₯ Instructions:
1. Make the sauce:
In a small bowl, mix all the sauce ingredients. Stir well, taste, and adjust seasoning. Set aside (or chill if prepping ahead).
2. Shape & cook the patties:
Form ground beef into 2 large, flat patties (about the shape of your bread). Season both sides with salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat. Cook patties for 3β4 minutes per side, until nicely seared and cooked through.
Top each patty with cheese during the last minute of cooking, cover with a lid to melt if needed.
3. Toast the bread:
Butter one side of each bread slice. Place buttered side down on a skillet over medium heat until golden and crispy.
4. Assemble:
Spread creamy sauce on the unbuttered sides of the bread. Layer on one slice: patty with cheese, caramelized onions (if using), then top with the other slice.
5. Grill it:
Place the assembled melt back on the skillet for a final toast, pressing slightly with a spatula, until everythingβs melty and golden.

Crispy fries or tater tots

Pickles on the side
