8 oz egg noodles

1½ lbs ground beef

2 cans (30 oz total) tomato sauce
Optional but recommended additions for flavor:

1 medium onion, chopped

1–2 cloves garlic, minced

Salt and pepper to taste

1–2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar or mozzarella, or a mix)

Dried Italian herbs or parsley for garnish

1. Boil the Noodles:

Cook the egg noodles according to package directions until just al dente.

Drain and set aside.
2. Cook the Beef Mixture:

In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef (and onion, if using) until browned.

Drain excess grease.

Add garlic (if using) and cook for another minute.

Stir in the tomato sauce. Let it simmer for 5–10 minutes. Add salt, pepper, and herbs to taste.
3. Assemble the Casserole:

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a greased 9×13 baking dish, layer:

Half the noodles

Half the meat sauce

A sprinkle of cheese (if using)

Repeat layers

4. Top & Bake:

Finish with a generous layer of shredded cheese on top.

Cover with foil and bake for 20 minutes.

Remove foil and bake 10 more minutes, until cheese is bubbly and golden.
5. Serve:

Let it sit for 5 minutes before slicing.

Garnish with parsley or Italian seasoning if desired.
